Regularly perform routine maintenance and checks on your plumbing system. If you catch problems early, you can avoid more serious issues at a later date.
Flush very hot water down your drains on a regular basis. This will wash away any soap scum, waste, and hair, and prevent the accumulation of debris that blocks the drain.
Use a drain protector. Place a mesh or drain protector over your outlets to collect debris and hair so that it doesn’t find its way down your drain where it can accumulate and create a blockage.
Attend to slow-draining outlets immediately. Plunge drains the instant they start to appear slow. It will be much quicker and easier to fix a minor blockage than it will to clear one that has been allowed to accumulate over time.
Put larger food waste in the trashcan. Make sure you use your garbage disposal for what it was intended for, cleaning up minor food waste that flows down the drain as you rinse your plates. Don’t be tempted to try and force larger food items down the garbage disposal.
