Shower valve isn’t working properly
Common issue: Shower valve is broken
Potential solutions: If the shower handle won’t turn or makes a strange grinding noise, the hot water isn’t working, the hot and cold water isn’t mixing properly, or water is only trickling out of your faucet, chances are your shower valve isn’t working properly. Contemporary faucets contain washerless cartridges, and these have replaced the older washer and valve seat designs to control water flow. There are numerous explanations for this:
- The valve cartridge is broken. Shower faucets contain a valve cartridge. If this breaks or wears, your valve will stop working.
- The rubber ring in the valve has corroded or broken. If the rubber ring has rotted, corroded or broken, you can quickly and easily replace it to get the system back up and running.
- The plastic knob is cracked or broken. Again, this is a relatively easy problem to fix.
- The valve has been installed upside down. Believe it or not, this is a common problem!
You should pay attention to any minor problems that emerge at the earliest opportunity. Fixing an issue in the early days could save you a lot of money down the line.
